THE STORY
Tennis has always been shaped by great rivalries. McEnroe vs. Borg. Federer vs. Nadal. Djokovic vs. Federer. Sinner vs. Alcaraz, still in the making.
But no rivalry defined the 90s quite like Andre Agassi vs. Pete Sampras. Same country. Same generation. Two completely different characters. Agassi was loud, colourful and impossible to ignore. Sampras was quiet, understated and seemingly impossible to beat. They played each other 34 times over 13 years, with Sampras leading 20–14.
But nowhere did their rivalry feel quite like it did at the US Open. New York. The lights. The noise. The Night Sessions. They met four times at Flushing Meadows and Sampras won all four. In 2001, they played one of their most unforgettable matches: four sets, four tiebreaks and not a single break of serve. A year later, they met one last time in the US Open final. Sampras won his 14th Grand Slam and never played another competitive match.
His first Grand Slam against Agassi in New York. His last Grand Slam against Agassi in New York. Twelve years apart.

THE ARTWORK
For the first time, a 58g release comes in black. With a story so closely connected to the legendary US Open Night Sessions, there really was no other choice.
On the front: A hand-drawn interpretation of the Unisphere at Flushing Meadows, together with the coordinates of the place where so much of their rivalry became tennis history.
On the back: A tennis ball shape made up of dozens of small illustrations. From a distance, one image. Up close, an archive of one of tennis' greatest rivalries.

Meet the Artist:
HÜLPMAN is the artist name of Felix Aaron Hülpüsch, a Berlin-based graphic designer, painter and illustrator. His work is bold, dynamic and often built around narrative. Using markers, spray paint and acrylic, he has created everything from murals and paintings to customized textiles, with work shown at exhibitions and festivals in Germany, Italy, Israel and New Zealand.
For RIVALS, we wanted someone who could turn more than a decade of tennis history into one piece of artwork. And because this story belongs to New York, we wanted it to look and feel like New York too.
The lights. The noise. The Night Sessions. The street culture. HÜLPMAN’s raw, handdrawn street art style felt like the perfect match, giving all the little stories and references of the rivalry a visual language that belongs to the city.
