Finding the man who walked onto Stadium 1
Since we were already in the desert, there was one more thing to do. We drove out to Palm Desert to find the hidden hero of that day: Lance Davis, the beekeeper who calmly walked onto Stadium 1 while millions of people watched, and cleared a professional tennis match of bees like it was Tuesday.
Lance isn't just a hero for a day. He's a true friend of bees, and in his office he told us the whole story: what Carlos Alcaraz said to him in that moment, what he said back, and how his love for bees started long before he ever set foot on a tennis court. His Oakley glasses were the same model he'd worn back then, too. Some things don't need an update.
As a parting gift, Lance handed us a jar of his own honey and an unworn Killer Bee Live Removal shirt. We left him a shirt too, a proper jersey swap, desert edition. No. 1 of 100 of THE SWARM now belongs to the person who made the whole story possible in the first place. That felt right.
Watch him taking us back in time.
